The Northern Pacific upgraded its premier North Coast Limited with new lightweight cars in 1947. In 1954, they added vista dome seating and the popular "Lewis and Clark Traveler's Lounge" cars. Several of the cars were owned by the CB&Q and SP&S, which carried the train over part of the route.
